History of Thrissur Branch of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of ICAI

The Thrissur Branch of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of ICAI has a rich legacy that dates back to its establishment on April 29, 1981. It was inaugurated by the then ICAI President, CA. V. Rajaraman, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in fostering excellence in the field of Chartered Accountancy in the region.

Early Years and Leadership

The branch began its operations with a small yet dedicated community of 60 members, who laid the foundation for its future growth. The inaugural leadership team played a pivotal role in guiding the branch during its formative years:

• CA. Sukumara Menon served as the first Chairman, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction.

• CA. C.K. Vasudevan assumed the role of the inaugural Secretary, contributing significantly to the organizational structure and operational efficiency of the branch.

In its initial years, the branch operated from rented premises, catering to the professional and academic needs of members and students in the region. The dedicated efforts of the founding members laid a solid foundation for the branch to emerge as a prominent hub for Chartered Accountancy education and professional development.

Establishment of Own Premises

A significant milestone in the history of the Thrissur Branch was achieved in 1988, when the branch moved to its own premises. The new facility was formally commissioned by CA. Das Guptha, the then President of ICAI. This transition provided the branch with a permanent space to conduct its activities, organize professional development programs, and deliver coaching classes for aspiring Chartered Accountants.

Expansion and Transition to Modern Infrastructure

As the branch continued to grow, the need for a larger and more advanced facility became apparent. To meet the increasing demand for professional education and member services, the branch transitioned to a modern, state-of-the-art facility at Chiyyaram, Thrissur, in 2014. Spanning approximately 20,000 square feet, the new facility was designed to meet the evolving needs of the members and students.

The new premises were equipped with:

• A well-maintained library with an extensive collection of reference materials, professional literature, and digital resources.

• Air-conditioned conference halls to host seminars, workshops, and conferences.

• Spacious and technologically advanced classrooms to provide an optimal learning environment for CA aspirants.

Growth and Recognition

The Thrissur Branch witnessed exponential growth over the years, evolving from a modest beginning of 60 members to a thriving professional community of over 1,200 members and 5,000 students today. This remarkable growth is a testament to the branch’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a vibrant accounting community while delivering high-quality education and training.

The branch gained prominence for its structured coaching programs for aspiring Chartered Accountants at various levels—Foundation, Intermediate, and Final. • Mock exams and revision sessions to prepare students for the rigors of the CA examinations.
